BP Canada Celebrates 120 Years of Innovation and Unveils a New Look
In 2025, BP Canada a leader in the manufacturing of building materials, proudly celebrates its 120th anniversary. Since our beginnings in 1905, we have built a rich legacy of innovation, passion, and commitment to quality. To mark this milestone, we invite you to explore the key moments that have shaped our journey and to take a glimpse at what the future holds.
Strong Roots, Lasting Legacy
It all began in Pont-Rouge, Quebec, where Bird & Sons Corporation built what would later become our fibreboard plant in 1905. Rooted in Canadian expertise, BP Canada quickly established itself as an innovative company. Among our standout achievements, we introduced the first oversized 42-inch shingle to the market and developed the patented Weather-TiteTM and Weather-TiteTM Plus, Plus technologies, offering exceptional resistance to winds up to 220 km/h—equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane.
We also revolutionized the market with the Chroma® Colour Lab and the ProFusioTM concept, enabling consumers to customize their roof like never before by mixing and matching different colour shingles. These innovations reflect our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance and design.

A Story of Resilience and Evolution
Over the decades, BP Canada has navigated through several eras, including ownership by the oil company Esso in the 1960s and 1970s. Despite these changes, we have remained true to our roots, keeping all our production operations in Canada. This loyalty to our identity as a “homegrown company” is a source of immense pride.
Starting in the 1990s, our pace of innovation accelerated. Our wood fibre product line expanded with solutions like Excel and Enermax insulation panels, R-4HP and R-5XP insul-sheating panels, as well as SoundSmart soundproofing panels, combining high performance with environmental responsibility. These products reflect our dedication to delivering sustainable, energy-efficient materials.
A New Chapter with Saint-Gobain
Since September 2023, BP Canada has been part of the Saint-Gobain family, alongside renowned brands like CertainTeed, Kaycan, and Bailey Metal Products. This partnership allows us to tap into the expertise of a global network of over 161,000 employees across 80 countries while continuing to innovate and uphold the highest quality standards. Fun fact: in 2014, Kaycan acquired KP Building Materials, which had previously taken over our BP Canada’s former vinyl siding operations years earlier—talk about a reunion decades in the making!
A New Look for a Bright Future
To mark our 120th anniversary, we are excited to unveil a refreshed image. Modern and bold, it pays homage to our past while resolutely looking toward the future. You will recognize iconic elements like the oval, a symbol present in most versions of our logo since day one, and a blue that recalls our iconic colour, now integrated into a design that reflects our connection to the Saint-Gobain group.
In this spirit of renewal, we are also simplifying our name: “Building Products of Canada Corp.” is now simply “BP Canada”! This change reflects our desire to stay close to our Canadian roots while embracing modernity.

A Success Driven by Our Customers and Partners
If BP Canada is celebrating 120 years of history today, it’s thanks to our clients, partners and employees, who have all played a crucial role in our success. Their trust and support inspire us to keep innovating and building a better future. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering loyalty and commitment.
